Skilla’s membership fee will change as of 1 January 2022

Skilla’s autumn meeting decided to change the membership fee to a fixed amount for all members. In the future, the membership fee will be simpler, clearer and easier to pay.

Changes in your salary no longer affect the amount of the membership fee, and you do not have to pay the membership fee for holiday bonuses, overtime payments or benefits in kind, for example. Despite the changes, the membership fee is still tax-deductible and the possibility of employer collection is maintained.

The change will not affect our operations, but you will continue to receive high-quality lobbying, as well as the best services for the needs of highly educated experts in administration and office work, from Akava Special Branches and your own member organisation Skilla. Our competence development and career planning services remain versatile, topical and free of charge for all our members.

The majority of Akava unions already have a flat-rate membership fee in place, and with the change, we will be able to serve all experts in administration and office work more extensively.

The membership fee categories are as follows:

Membership fee: EUR 34/month

You pay this membership fee if you are in paid employment or receive an allowance from Erko/other unemployment fund. The fee is also paid from the so-called support package in the event of termination of employment.

The membership of the unemployment fund will not cause any additional costs for your membership fee. The membership fee shall be the same for members who are members of the unemployment fund and for members who are not. By being a member of the fund, you can receive an earnings-related unemployment allowance.

Membership fee of freelancers (including employed freelancers), individual professionals and entrepreneurs: EUR 18/month

Minimum membership fee: EUR 10/month

You pay the minimum membership fee if you are not in paid employment and do not receive an allowance from the Erko Fund/other unemployment fund.

You are entitled to a minimum membership fee, for example, if

  • you are on family leave (NB! If your employer pays the salary for the first three months of maternity leave, the normal membership fee will be paid for those months.)
  • you receive grants
  • you are on unpaid sick leave
  • you receive rehabilitation support
  • you receive a benefit for caring for close relatives
  • you receive adult education allowance
  • you are unemployed or laid off and receive a benefit from Kela
  • you are working abroad (and not a posted worker).

Student Basic membership fee, not a member of the Erko unemployment fund: EUR 10/year

Students who have registered for a degree and are not members of the Erko unemployment fund are entitled to the Student Basic membership fee.

Student Pro membership fee, member of the Erko unemployment fund: EUR 96/year

Students who have registered for a degree and are members of the Erko unemployment fund are entitled to the Student Pro membership fee.

Pensioner's membership fee: EUR 10/month

Support membership fee: EUR 500/year

A legal entity or person who wishes to support the purpose and activities of the union may be accepted as a support member.

A member in military or civilian service is exempt from membership fees.

An honorary member of the union is exempt from membership fees.

Paying membership fees

The monthly amount in 2022 thus remains the same and the amount of the payment does not need to be calculated separately based on a salary receipt. As before, you can pay the membership fee in the Akava Special Branches online platform or in your own bank with the payment details you have received.

If your employer has previously been collecting the membership fee from your salary, you do not need to do anything yourself. However, it is beneficial to verify from the first pay slip of the year that the membership fee has been paid correctly.

Please note! If you are, for example, a student, a trainee or another temporary employee, your automatic employer's collection will end on 31 December 2021. You will receive a membership fee invoice for 2022 from us at the beginning of the year. You can ask for advice on continuing the employer's collection from the Membership Officials of Akava Special Branches.

If you receive allowance from the fund, you pay the membership fee yourself in the future.

We are actively developing ways to pay the membership fee, and we are working hard to make e-invoices available during 2022.

Remember to keep your information up to date

Your membership fee class will be determined based on the information in the online service. You will receive an invoice and payment information from Akava Special Branches based on your information in early 2022. For this reason, it is important that your postal address, email address and information about your current situation are up to date in the online service of Akava Special Branches.
