Kumula’s membership fee will change as of 1 January 2022

Starting from the beginning of next year, Kumula will move to a fixed monthly membership fee model. The membership fee reform simplifies the payment of the membership fee because the fixed membership fee is no longer dependent on monthly income and does not vary with monthly income.

The membership fee is no longer paid, for example, for holiday bonuses, overtime compensation, evening work bonus, fringe benefits or other additional earnings. The reform will make it easier to pay the membership fee, especially for members who pay their membership fee themselves, work for several employers and whose monthly earnings vary.

Despite the changes, the membership fee is still tax-deductible and the possibility of employer collection is maintained.

Member services and lobbying will remain unchanged

The change will not affect our operations. Kumula and Akava Special Branches will continue to provide the same services and high-quality representation of interests to their members, whether they are inactive or employed, individual professionals, self-employed or freelancers. New services are also constantly being developed to meet the needs and expectations of municipal experts.

Please note that, like before, your membership of the Erko unemployment fund or another unemployment fund does not entail additional costs for the membership fee. The membership fee shall be the same for members who are members of the unemployment fund and for members who are not. By being a member of the fund, you can receive an earnings-related unemployment allowance.

Paying membership fees

As before, if you are in an employment or service relationship and you are working full-time, you can authorise your employer to collect your membership fee directly from your salary or pay the membership fee yourself in the online service of Akava Special Branches or based on the payment information in your own bank.

If your employer has previously been collecting the membership fee from your salary, you do not need to do anything yourself. However, it is beneficial to verify from the first pay slip of the year that the membership fee has been paid correctly.

Please note! If you are, for example, a student, trainee, or a similar temporary employee or you work as a part-time employee (60% or less of full-time work), your employer’s collection will end on 31 December 2021. You will receive a membership fee invoice for 2022 from us at the beginning of the year. You can ask for advice on continuing the employer's collection from the Membership Officials of Akava Special Branches.

If you receive allowance from the fund, you pay the membership fee yourself in the future.

Remember to keep your information up to date

Your membership fee class will be determined based on the information in the online service. You will receive an invoice and payment information from Akava Special Branches based on your information in early 2022. For this reason, it is important that your postal address, email address and information about your current situation are up to date in the online service of Akava Special Branches. A separate application must be submitted for a reduced membership fee of a member working part time.
