You can join Sure – Finland’s Hospitality Managers’ Union if you have completed a university of applied sciences degree in tourism, catering and domestic services, as well as those who are currently studying in the field or have previously completed college-level training in this field.
Sure – Finland’s Hospitality Managers’ Union is the leading voice for those with a Bachelor of Hospitality Management degree. Membership fee categories
If you are in paid employment or an employed freelancer, you pay a fixed membership fee regardless of the amount of your salary or holiday bonuses, overtime payments and benefits in kind received during the year. The fee is also paid from the so-called support package in the event of termination of employment.
If you do not have any earned income but receive earnings-related unemployment allowance from the unemployment fund. The amount of the membership fee is the same regardless of the amount of the unemployment allowance.
You pay the minimum membership fee if you are not in paid employment or do not receive an allowance from the Erko Fund/other unemployment fund.
The minimum membership fee applies in the following situations, for example:
- you are on family leave (NB! If your employer pays the salary for the first three months of family leave, the normal membership fee will be paid for those months.)
- you receive grants
- you are on unpaid sick leave
- you receive rehabilitation support
- you receive a benefit for caring for close relatives
- you are unemployed or laid off and receive a benefit from Kela
- you are working abroad (and not a posted worker).
This membership includes the unemployment fund. If you are a full-time degree student, you pay the student membership fee even if you are in paid employment alongside your studies. However, you must fulfil the work requirement in order to be entitled to the unemployment fund.

Pensioner’s membership fee: EUR 96/year
Membership fee for the individual professional or entrepreneur: EUR 16.50/month
A member in military or civilian service is exempt from membership fees.
An honorary member of the union is exempt from membership fees.
The membership fee of a trade union is tax deductible.

Your membership fee category is determined on the basis of your membership information. You will receive an invoice and payment details from Akava Special Branches, based on your membership information, at the beginning of the year.
