Membership is a statement for your rights in working life.

In Akava Special Branches, you can choose from 20 member organisations representing different professional and academic fields.

The membership fee is determined by the member organisation. The membership fee of a trade union is tax deductible.

We provide you with personal legal consultation, assistance concerning your employment, unemployment benefit and insurance coverage. We provide you with training that supports your career aspirations and we help you with job seeking when you want to pursue new challenges.

We improve your remuneration and rights in working life. We work to achieve pay increases, better well-being at work, more equality in working life and stronger unemployment security for you.

We make sure that your voice is heard at the highest levels of negotiation, as we are a multidisciplinary and influential trade union. The important decisions that change working life for the better are achieved through collective strength, and we have plenty of it.

How to join

1. Browse our member organisations and choose the one that suits you best.
2. Fill in the membership application (in Finnish).

   If you are in paid employment, you should also join the Unemployment Fund for Higher Educated Employees Erko. You can use the same membership application form to join Erko. This way, membership of the unemployment fund will be included in your membership fee and you will have the opportunity to receive earnings-based unemployment allowance.
   
   If you are a student and you are not in paid employment at the time of joining the union, you can join the unemployment fund as soon as your next employment relationship begins.
3. Your membership application will be processed by the member organisation, after which you will receive information on the acceptance of your membership and an invoice for the membership fee.
   
   Your membership will begin from the day when your application reaches us, unless you have specifically requested that your membership starts at a later date.
   
   There is no fee for the month in which you join.

Support a good cause

By joining us, you support youth work and environmental protection in Finland. Akava Special Branches donates one euro to charity for each new member. The sum accumulated over the year is divided evenly between HelsinkiMissio and the Finnish Association for Nature Conservation.
