Keeping a list of weekly hours – what for?

A student or another member who works part time can also accumulate the condition regarding previous employment required for unemployment benefit.

Every week, during which you work for at least 18 hours, is taken into account when reviewing the condition regarding previous employment. The salary paid for this work must comply with the collective labour agreement. If the field of work is not covered by a collective labour agreement, the required minimum salary for full-time work in 2014 is EUR 1,154.

The required amount of previous employment is 26 calendar weeks, provided that you have completed at least one calendar week of work as required for the condition to be fulfilled after 29 December 2013. Normally, the condition regarding previous employment required for unemployment benefit must be fulfilled within 28 months. However, full-time studies constitute an acceptable reason for being unavailable to the labour market. In this case, the review period for the condition regarding previous employment required for unemployment benefit can be extended by a maximum of seven years.

If you work part-time with varying hours, keep a calendar week-specific record (in Finnish) of your working hours and salary.

Remember to save your payslips, certificates of employment and any possible work schedules You may be requested to submit such documentation to Erko, for example, if you become unemployed.
